Oxycontin and Oxycodone both are the pain killers or analgesic. They are used to get relief from moderate to severe pain. Oxycodone is the content of oxycontin and other analgesic whereas oxycontin is the brand name. They belong to the class of opiate or narcotic drugs. They are derived from poppy plants or synthetic copies of opium. All the analgesics are nearly same and are put in the schedule II by the United states of Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Oxycontin and Oxycodone are nearly same. Just the difference is oxycodone is the content of oxycontin with some other chemicals so it is in controlled manner. Oxycodone is direct and effects faster. Both works on the same receptors in the brain that are referred as endogenous opiod receptors. These receptors of brain are designed to work for neurotransmitters like endorphins and enkephalins. Their action helps person’s body to overcome from pain, anxiety, stress. These man-made substances work faster and are potent to these neuro transmitters. People knowing its effect get motivated for these drugs which then results in abuse of the drugs or development of disorders of substance.

Oxycontinis a time- release form of oxycodone i.e. it releases  the medicine in a proper way in a particular time. It contains higher amount of oxycodone than other drugs. People use it incontinently and in a wrong manner i.e. grinding or snorting or mixing with other drugs or taking in the form of injection. This experience can have enhanced effects than others who abuse it. Oxycontin may have stronger effects and may be more likely to lead to substance disorder in very short period of time than that of oxycodone. The most common results are pain relief and euphoria. Oxycotin is used to induce labor pain for pregnant lady without having any effect on lady and fetal as well. Theses medicine cannot be used directly after surgery if the person is not using it before.

Side effects of these drugs are gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting, and constipation. Other than these drowsiness, flushing , excessive sweating, dry mouth, loss of appetite, dizziness, some kind of skin allergies like rashes, spotting, swelling of mouth and lips, etc. People get addicted to all such drugs and can have adverse effects on body if used for long term. People should use these drugs according to the prescriptions. Oxycodone and oxycontin are interchangeable drugs.
